M'aiq (formerly Jax)
M'aiq (formerly Jax)

When Winston and I lost his brother Archer in October 2023, we were both devastated. Archer was my first cat, and he was Winston's brother (same parents, different litter). Winston and Archer had been together for more than a decade, so the normally independent Winston (he usually slept on his own bed, whereas Archer was the lap cat/close one) became a lot more clingy, sleeping on the bed with me, and hanging around when I'm in my PC room. He also "yowled" a lot, as though he was calling out for Archer, as he couldn't find him in the house. I could tell he missed his brother, and was pretty lonely when I was out of the house for work or for vacation.

So it was around December that I decided to look for a companion for Winson and I. I had some criteria in mind, a young cat, either black or orange like Winston, and good with other cats. Someone who could bring back some energy to Winston and I. I saw Jax's profile, and thought he was a good candidate! At the meet and greet, Jax immediately welcomed me inside the foster's house, and I practically knew he was perfect. Whereas both Archer and Winston were/are pretty shy around other humans, Jax was super friendly, chatty, and a very needy boy, demanding chin scritches. He seemed perfect!

When I brought him home, I was nervous as to how Winston would react. But while he was wary and anxious at first, soon enough he was grooming and playing with Jax enough to tolerate his kitten energy. Although they're still trying to figure each other out, I think they're on their way to becoming the companions I hope they will be! Sam
