Why Volunteer?

Most people assume volunteering for an animal rescue means playing with kittens or walking dogs—and sometimes it does. But for Hart 2 Heart volunteers, the experience is much deeper.

You become the person an animal learns to trust—the familiar face that helps a frightened cat feel safe or a shy senior relax into a purr. That is more than volunteering; it is changing a life.

What Volunteering with H2H looks like

Hart 2 Heart volunteers keep everything running — and every animal in our care has the best possible chance at a forever home because of them. All it requires is a little dedication and a lot of love.

There's a role for every kind of person:

Hands-on roles

Working with animals at our partner pet store locations
Socializing and caring for cats in foster settings
Helping at events and adoption days

Behind-the-scenes roles

Paperwork, scheduling, and data entry
Interviewing potential adopters and fosters
Fundraising and event planning
Social media and communications

What You Get Out Of It

Volunteering with H2H isn't just good for the animals — it's good for you too. Our volunteers build real, practical skills, discover new interests, and form genuine friendships with people who share their values. Research also shows that time spent with animals lowers stress and lifts your mood.

But honestly? The biggest reward is something you can't measure. It's knowing that because you showed up, an animal who had nothing now has everything. Volunteering is a commitment — it won't always be easy or convenient. But it is one of the most meaningful things you can do with your time.

Young volunteers welcome

We proudly support teens who care about animals. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Junior volunteers ages 14–17 are welcome and must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian when interacting with animals directly.

Teens can also make a real difference through school-based fundraising, like a bake sale selling sweet treats for an even sweeter cause. Every dollar raised by a young person helps fund the care of an animal in need. That matters — a lot.

Can't volunteer your time? You can still help.

Our animals always need food, toys, bedding, and grooming supplies. Shopping our wishlists is one of the easiest ways to make a direct difference — items go straight to the animals in our care.
