Daphne How we came to adopt Daphne & Lana. In February we lost our Claudette Celine Monet. She was the first cat we ever adopted. Celine was the name of her foster mom. Claudette took to Rich but after a few months. 2 1/2 years feral, 2 1/2 years in foster. It took her a few years to like me. When we lost Claudette Rich wanted another cat. I said no, not at our ages. He said yes. He's a caregiver and likes to feed every living being he comes upon. So, I looked at our local shelter for a bonded pair, but they were only 10 months old. Too young. Rich came to me with a list of about 12 cats he was looking at. I looked at the bottom of the page and saw Dolce and Luce, submitted the application and the rest is history. What pleases me the most about their adoption is they have remained together. He was only planning on one cat. I never had any doubt about getting a female, long haired and bonded pair. Lana resembles Claudette a lot.
House rules:
You don't go outside. Use the letter box, unless you are alerting us to health issues, don't go on the kitchen counter and don't scratch the furniture.
Lana's rules
Don't put the tempting spider plant on the windowsill if you don't want me on the counter.
Don't put open recycling basket where I can rummage through for cat food and tuna cans.
Clear off the left side of the dresser so I can jump in the back bedroom window without knocking things off.
Do not walk by me without petting me. I'll chirp to remind you.
Daphne's rules
Keep the side bedroom drapes open. I prefer that view.
Don't block the basement door, I'll remove the obstacle.
Don't even THINK about closing the bathroom door when you're in there.
First night. Daphne hid between the couch and end table. Rich peeked in at her and she was out and about in 30 seconds.
They both used the scratching post on the cat tree immediately. They enjoy climbing and sleeping on it.
They loved the back window and within an hour or 2 of their arrival they were crawling all over me on the couch. In my 53 years of having cats we've never seen such an ease with new ones.
Since then the road has gone so smoothly for them. Daphne loves to follow me around but is the leader of the pack to Lana.
Our home was built with a front and back bedroom door. (Fire escape I guess). Sometimes they'll get off the condo and chase each other thru the living room, around to the bedroom, back to the living room, through the kitchen and downstairs. (Sometimes they do this at 5a.m. we just smile and enjoy the pitter patter of eight little paws.)
Daphne had diarrhea the first day. Probably from the car ride. So we picked her up, wiped her down with wet and dry cloths, combed her and trimmed some hair. No fuss out of her. An hour later she was on the bed lightly napping and when I came in she rolled over for a full belly rub. (After all we put her through.)
They love our big front window and when Rich is feeding the birds in the back, he'll leave a few seeds out for the squirrels to come to the window. They love it.
They bring us lots of smiles and giggles.
Yesterday Daphne was on the bed and wanted some belly rubs. Lana saw this from the living room, jumped on the bed and rolled over right on Lana for belly rubs.
I don't know their backstory, but they must have had a great upbringing. I hope their former cat person can rest well knowing how their cared for.
On their name change. I really wanted to keep them but Rich and I kept confusing them and they were tongue twisters. So I decided on Daphne and Lily. But, Lily didn't flow with Daphne, so Lana came to mind. Our cat sitter thought we would confuse Lana but she didn't answer to Luce anyway.
They're always chirping and trilling. Lana's meows are very soft. Daphne doesn't meow much and they have great purrs.
It was a seamless effort to adopt through your organization. Everyone was so professional and courteous. I'd highly recommend you.
Thank for the great care you gave them.
Domino Domino is doing great. We found out he had a heart valve problem and after two echoes, we put him on vetmediin. He is now more active than he ever was (which is a lot since he always had a lot of energy).
He is also extremely smart; we sepak to him as if he is a little person - and he learned our habits, etc. very quickly. It is funny how he does some things like us - for example, he is particular what he eats his meals from. For breakfast and lunch, he wants a plate; for dinner he uses a bowl! He tells us when he wants to go out, and we have a routine where he will sit on a landing between floors and wait for us to brush his teeth!
We are so glad we have him.
Thanks!
Dash They are settling in nicely, Dash took a little to come around but today he was out from under the bed and running around and chasing his brother. Click a letter to find an animal or view all.
